What’s new in borrower education?

This summer and fall, T.H.E. will roll out additional borrower education resources aimed at helping students better manage their money. These lender-neutral materials include online tutorials, brochures, calculators and presentations that tackle topics such as budgeting, gauging your debt, and identity theft.

Tutorials – three new tutorials introduce students to serious topics using light themes: dealing with identity theft with a comic book twist, understanding how credit works with a videogame feel and the art of living on a budget with The Game of Budget.

Brochures – students can learn more about how to prevent and fight identity theft, understand the features of the new income-based repayment plan available July 2009 and get updated Entrance materials.

Calculators – one calculator provides students with multiple loans at different interest rates the ability to select repayment options to determine estimated monthly payment and total loan cost; a more general debt payment calculator gives the students the ability to determine how long it will take to pay off their outstanding debt.

Presentations – the identity theft presentation offers students a more in-depth look into preventing, recognizing and fighting identity theft. The Gauge Your Debt presentation helps students forecast their student loan debt early on and proactively find ways to spend less during the schooling years so they can feel more confident in their ability to pay back their loans after school.
