This spring saw the beginning of our annual calling campaign, aimed at reaching all T.H.E. borrowers who are slated to graduate. The goal of the calling campaign is to work with graduates in setting up a personalized repayment strategy other than the standard repayment term and helping them take advantage of other options that will save them money.
So far, our debt management counselors have reached out to approximately 70% of our spring borrowers. Our counselors work with each graduate to provide personalized, proactive support to those who may be overwhelmed with organizing their loan portfolio as they transition into residency, study for the bar, look for employment or create a manageable repayment plan. For example, some graduates have more complicated portfolios because of private loans that have a completely different grace period; others have some loans that enter repayment immediately while some do not. They depend on the expertise of our debt management counselors to find the best repayment strategy.
When working with graduates to create a repayment strategy, our counselors take them through a step-by-step approach that focuses on paying off higher-rate debt first, ultimately lowering total loan cost. Many graduates choose to postpone payment and then establish a monthly payment plan that will suit their particular financial situation in the future.
We will continue our calling campaign until we’ve reached every one of our graduates. We hope to do this by end of July to early August.
